The club in brief

TTC Bonn-Ippendorf e. V. is the table tennis club in the Ippendorf district of Bonn. We train indoors all year round and welcome beginners, returning players and club players alike, from children aged eight to seniors. Your first trial session is free. We provide bats and balls; all you need to bring is a clean pair of indoor shoes.

01 · Why table tennis

The fastest sport you can pick up standing still.

No rain, no winter break, no expensive kit. You need a table, somebody on the other side and about twenty minutes before the first rally starts to work.

2.74m

Short distances

That is the length of a table tennis table. Everything is decided over that distance, which is exactly why it happens so fast.

12months

Always indoors

We play in a sports hall, all year round. November is just as good here as June.

0Euro

Try before you join

The trial session costs nothing. After that you decide in your own time, with no deadline and nobody chasing you.

8to80

The sport you can keep playing the longest

Table tennis is easy on the joints and trains reaction, coordination and concentration all at once. Here, school pupils and pensioners stand at the same table, and it works remarkably well.

02 · Serve and return

What people tell us before they come for the first time.

On the left is what we hear again and again. On the right is what we play back.

Serve

I have not played since school.

Return

Then you are in exactly the right place. A large part of our club started the same way. Muscle memory is remarkably patient; after two evenings it feels familiar again.

Serve

I am too old for this.

Return

Table tennis is the sport people keep playing the longest. Hardly any jumping, no physical contact, and you set the pace yourself. Returning players over fifty are nothing unusual here.

Serve

I do not even own a bat.

Return

You do not need one. Bats and balls are ready and waiting. If you want your own later on, we will give you honest advice. It costs considerably less than most people expect.

Serve

I do not want competition, I just want to play.

Return

You do not have to. Some of us play seriously, others come for the fun and for an evening in good company. Both are perfectly fine, and nobody will push you into a team.

Serve

I do not know anyone there.

Return

Twenty minutes later you will. Players rotate between tables, so you end up playing with several people automatically. You do not even have to talk much.

Serve

I am not fit enough.

Return

A relaxed rally is not interval training. It becomes one the moment you want it to. That is exactly why table tennis works for very different fitness levels on the same evening.

03 · Who is behind it

You are not writing to an address, but to a person.

Caspar Vondran, founder and managing director of TTC Bonn-Ippendorf e. V.
“I founded the club because Ippendorf was missing a table where you could simply get started.”

TTC Bonn-Ippendorf is a young club, and you can tell. There are no entrenched hierarchies and no waiting lists. When you write to us, you do not reach an office but the person who also stands in the hall on training evenings.

07 · Frequently asked questions

Answered briefly.

What does a trial session cost?

Nothing. Your trial session at TTC Bonn-Ippendorf is free and commits you to nothing. Afterwards you decide in your own time whether you want to stay.

Do I need my own bat?

No. We provide bats and balls. All you need to bring is sports kit and clean indoor shoes that do not leave marks on the hall floor.

From what age can you join in?

From around eight years old. There is no upper limit. Table tennis is easy on the joints and can be played well into old age.

Can I come as a complete beginner?

Yes, absolutely. Some of our members played properly for the first time here at the club. We will take the time to show you the serve, how to hold the bat and the basic strokes.

Do I have to play in a team?

No. You are welcome to come to training only. If you ever want a taste of competition, the door is open, but nobody is obliged.

Where does TTC Bonn-Ippendorf train?

In the sports hall in Bonn-Ippendorf, Netzestraße 902, 53127 Bonn. Training takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 17:00 to 22:00. The exact times are listed further up this page.

Do I need to speak German?

Not to play. Table tennis works fine without much talking, and several people at the club are happy to speak English. Feel free to write to us in English; Caspar will answer in English.

How do I become a member?

Come to a trial session first, then decide. To join, you fill in a short membership application. You will get it from us at the hall or by email. Please note that the form itself is in German.

08 · Trial session

Write us one sentence. We will sort out the rest.

Caspar reads the enquiries himself and usually replies within a few days with a suggested date.

Prefer to get in touch directly?

You are also welcome to simply turn up at the hall during a training slot. A short message beforehand is still a good idea, then somebody will be waiting for you.
